We all love funky nails. We love experimenting with colors, we love filing them square or round, we love keeping them long or not-so-long, and we love getting artsy with them! The “in thing” today is to get as creative with your nails as possible and there are no boundaries to what all you can do. Who says you need to visit the beauty salon to get your nails worked up? Let us show you some ways to totally funk-it-up at the tips of your fingers.

1. Be The Glitter Queen

This is a simple technique but one that gives amazing results. Just sprinkle a pinch of glitter on your nails while the nail color is still wet, and top it off with a stroke of the top coat. There! That’s what we are talking about when we say ‘instant’ glitter queen.

2. Go Floral

A nail polish pen, with either a very thin tip or the pointy end of a flat tip, will be useful in creating a floral garden on your nails. After your base color is dried and set, create cute little flowers in different colors to add a spring-appeal to your nails.

3. Try Some Texture

These can be quite fun, and will keep onlookers wondering how you got that unique design on your fingers. Try combining matte and shiny polish, for instance, diagonals painted in shiny nail colour over a matte base coat of the same color. Or you may even get the “crackle” nail polish and apply a coat over any color to get a cracked look on the nails.

4. Nerd Up With Newspaper Prints

So you want to get all the newspaper fonts on your nails? Just apply a light-colored nail polish (light pink, light grey, etc), allow it to dry completely, then dip your nails in rubbing alcohol for 30 seconds, and quickly press a strip of newspaper on your nails (words against the nails) till the words are imprinted on your nails. Voila! That’s a newspaper right there on your fingers.

5. The Double Deal

If you wish to keep it simple and easy and funky at the same time, just color your nails in two different shades. Keep half of a nail in one color and the other half in any contrasting color. Do it vertically or stroke it up horizontally. It’s simple and gives an awesome look.

Animal prints do not look good on clothes alone. Try to fest up your nails with a zebra print by swirling a few lines of black on white nail color. Or do a cheetah print with black spots on yellow nail color. Using a nail polish pen will be helpful for these.

There can’t be an easier way of decorating your nails than this. Just put on a nail sticker, nail decals or glue down tiny nail rhinestones on any nail color of your choice.

8. Marble Them Up

Create marble nails quite easily and in many different colors. Fill a disposable bowl with filtered water; drop a polish color in water, followed by another drop of a different color and another drop of yet another color. Make lines in the design using a toothpick and dip your nail in the water. Clean the edges of your fingers with a cotton bud dipped in nail polish remover. Repeat for other nails and as many colors as you like.
